Frequently Asked Questions

1.    Is this a kit?

Our decks are custom-fit and built on-site.  Kits are not available.

2.    What kind of lumber do you use?

Our decks are built with ACQ pressure treated lumber (premium-grade decking).

3.    Do you cement posts in the ground?

Whether Ready Decks uses posts on concrete blocks or sets posts into the ground depends on conditions at the building site. We will set posts into concrete for a small additional fee.  We usually set our posts on concrete blocks because our research has shown that:
  • Posts on blocks are just as stable and provide as much as or even better protection against settling
  • Posts on blocks keep the post off of the ground keeping them dry, thus increasing post longevity
However, if there is a potential of major erosion around a deck, the Ready Decks installation team is equipped to sink the posts into concrete for a small additional fee. We also typically set decks into concrete in coastal areas where homeowners can expect hurricane-force winds.

4.    Do you use nails or screws?

This is one of the most frequent questions we receive -- and with good reason. After more than a decade of building decks, our experience has guided us to use a specific, "ring shank" fastener, which has been designed exclusively for use in ACQ-treated lumber. (See The Ready Decks Advantage, Number 7.)

At the customer's request, we will use screws to attach decking. However, the design of our deck requires utilizing our ring shank fasteners in order to preserve structural integrity and prevent compromising stability of the underlying deck.

5.    What does the price include?

The short answer is, "A complete deck!" You get everything you need to start enjoying life outdoors. The deck price includes the handrails, one set of steps, balusters, labor, installation and tax. If you requested specific upgrades or options, those will be included in the price quote you receive.

6.    What is the difference between your Ready Decks® and your Ready Porches®?

Our Ready Porches® have a roof and our decks do not. (See Ready Porches.) We also offer Gable Roofs for a more integrated feel.

7.    What kind of top do you put on your porches?

Our standard Ready Porches are constructed out of treated lumber rafters and a top-quality painted metal roofing that carries a 25-year manufacturer's warranty. The roofing comes in a variety of colors to give your new Ready Porch an even more customized feel.  For more information on color selections, visit Ready Porches.

8.    Do you stain decks?

A new deck or porch represents a substantial investment. While Ready Decks and Ready Porches are built using the best-available in treated lumber, we recognize many homeowners desire to protect their investment while simultaneously beautifying their home.

That's why we have entered into a partnership with
Bayou Wood Defender as the preferred provider for staining and sealing our products. As a preferred provider, Bayou Wood Defender understands the ins and outs of our unique product line and has a variety of products to suit every need.

Sealing or staining your deck is a worthy protection of your investment. However, Ready Decks recommends waiting 4-6 weeks after installation of the deck before you stain or seal your deck, as this gives the wood time to breathe and cure.

9.    Do you guarantee your decks and for how long?

Ready Decks® carries a one-year limited warranty on workmanship only.  This warranty covers defects and problems caused by improper installation and construction.

Many of the materials we utilize also carries a manufacturer warranty. For more information, visit our
Warranty page.

10.    Will I need a building permit?

Maybe. Whether or not your project will require a building permit largely depends on building codes and rules in your area. You will need to check with your local city or county permit office to see if a permit is required in your area.

11.    Do I need an estimate?

We offer a line of pre-designed, pre-priced decks and porches for which we can quote prices over the phone. Telephone quotes are available when:

  • Decks and porches are standard sizes and we know exactly what each size deck requires such as:  Materials, labor time, overhead cost (insurance).
You need an estimate when:
  • Barriers- ex:  Tree, building, special shaped pools, lake, pond, etc.
  • Deck location is on a steep incline and may require modification to our standard building process.
  • Deck height may be excessive.
  • You have no idea what type of deck you want, what size you need or what special considerations might be taken into account because of your location.
Typically, we do not charge a fee for estimates. However, Ready Decks may require a nominal fee to cover excessive travel expenses. Such fees will typically be applied toward the total cost of your deck once you sign the contract. Contact Ready Decks to set up an estimate or for more information about pricing.

12.  Do you accept Credit Cards?

We accept all Major Credit Cards including MasterCard, Visa, Discover, and American Express.

13.     How long does it take to complete a job?

Most of our decks are complete within one day.  Larger jobs can take up to two days or longer, depending on the complexity of the deck.

We schedule jobs in the order they are received, and we pride ourselves on keeping to the schedule. Often, we work past sunset, on weekends and holidays to ensure our customers get their decks as soon as possible. Currently, new deck orders are scheduled for completion within two weeks.
