As your local Ready Decks provider, we’ll tailor any Ready Decks product to fit your needs and preferences.

Ready Decks® was originally conceptualized in 1998 by Bradley W. Johns. Having started a company in 1997 called Vinyl Visions Inc., selling and installing custom vinyl decks and fences, Bradley quickly realized the need for not only great quality at an affordable price, but that his customers wanted to purchase a deck easily and have it built quickly.

He also found that most homeowners get nervous and worried that they are going getting ripped off or that their daily life will be disrupted for days or even weeks.

So after three years of research and development, Ready Decks® was officially available.

What To Know When Creating A Deck

Before you get the deck installation process started, it’s essential that you take some time to do some research. This way, you’ll be as knowledgeable as you can be. Not only that, but with the proper information and preparation, you’ll be able to communicate what your vision is to your deck builder. Here is what you should consider and know before you call up your local Ready Deck providers in West Monroe.

What function will your deck play?

This may sound surprising, but your deck can play a few different roles. Being such a versatile feature, you can get great use out of it, no matter the season. But before you start the deck building process, it’s important to consider how exactly you’d like your deck to function. How are you planning on utilizing the functionality? Will the deck be a place for a fire pit, hot tub, or outdoor entertainment area with a TV? Or will the deck be for outdoor gardening and yard work purposes? The first step to creating the deck of your dreams is to figure out what function your deck will play in your household.

How accessible do you want it to be?

The idea of building a deck sounds as easy as can be…until you consider the accessibility factor, that is. What we mean by this is how you will get to your deck. Many homeowners choose to put a deck in their backyard. This sounds like a wonderful idea until you realize that you don’t have a door in the back of your house for easy access to the deck. In these situations, homeowners have no other option than to create a doorway to lead to the deck outside. That said, if you do have doors that lead outside near the area you’re planning on putting the deck, it will make the installation process much easier overall.

What is your budget?

With every home improvement project, it’s important to figure out how much you are willing to spend before you begin. And deck building is no different. Depending on where you live, the price of building your deck can vary. Do you research to learn what is a fair cost and what is reasonable for your budget.

What To Look For When Hiring A Deck Builder

Once you have figured out how you are going to use your deck and what you are willing to spend for the installation process, it’s time to call your local deck builders at the Ready Decks location in West Monroe. Here are some tips for what to look for in a quality deck building company.

Do your research

Before hiring a company, take the extra time it takes to do a little research into them. Find past client reviews and recommendations to hear first-hand experiences of customers in the past. If you know of anyone who hired the same company, ask them about their experience, what they loved, and how the final product turned out. And of course, make sure that the company you are considering hiring is licensed and insured.

Ask questions

When it comes to installing a deck addition to your home, you want to make sure you are on the same page as your deck builder. In order to clear up any gray area and to avoid miscommunications from happening in the future, be sure to ask as many questions as you can from the get-go. Even before hiring the company in the first place, give them a call to learn more about their work ethic and processes. Learn more about the company themselves, like how long they have been in business and what their warranty is. If you have a specific vision for your project, ask them about what you’re hoping they can provide for you. While it may seem like you’re asking too many questions, there’s no such thing. Remember that you are the one who is investing your time and money into a deck project and you want to have as much clarity as possible before hiring a deck builder. In the long run, asking questions up front can save you even more time and more money.

Inquire about an estimate

When you find a deck builder that you like, ask them for an estimate. Getting a written cost of the labor and materials required for the process will help you make an educated decision on which decking company to go with. An estimate will also help you decide what a reasonable budget should be for the entire project. With this information, you can move forward with the process knowing exactly what to expect.

How To Repair Your Deck

Depending on the severity of the damage done to your deck, oftentimes homeowners can repair the damage on their own with the right tools and a few hours. The most common damage that happens is the wood on the decking splitting. This can happen over the years from being worn and used, or can be from improper initial installation. Regardless how the deck got damaged, Ready Decks® West Monroe is here to help. If your deck is beyond repair, give us a call! If your deck is still in reasonable condition and just needs a little love, keep reading!

Flip the Plank

Damage that is purely cosmetic or shallow can be addressed quickly and easily. Planks sometimes get scuffed up, stained, or get shallow cracks. When this is the case, simply remove the nails or screws that are holding the plank, flip it over to the other side, and re-secure the plank down. Make sure that before re-securing the plank back down that the other side of the deck plank is in good condition — you don’t want to have it be worse than it was before! For obvious reasons, this method will only work one time on any given decking plank.

While this method may seem like flipping the couch cushion over when there is a stain, it’s actually an effective deck solution. Both sides of a plank have great life and usability. Especially if your flaw is purely cosmetic, flipping the plank over and using the other side can be an affordable and easy solution.

Repairing Joist

For those unaware, joists are what comprise the framing of the deck. They are the many individual crossbeams supporting the structure of the deck. When you have damage to joists, this can be a more serious issue. Since the joists have the job of supporting your deck, your decking is at risk of collapsing. Before you start any joist repairs, make sure that you reinforce the section that you are repairing to avoid any collapses.

Typically, you know that the joists are damaged when you can visibly see that the wood has started to rot and fall apart. When this is the case start by removing the planks in the way of the joist. From here ,you’ll need to remove the rotted areas the best you can with tools, such as a hammer and chisel, and fill in the areas with wood putty. Afterward, you need to generously apply 2-3 layers of sealer. Make sure to reinforce or replace the joist if the damage is severe enough.

Replacing Planks

Replacing decking planks is an easy solution if there are only a few planks damaged and the rest of the deck is in good condition. Double check that you have purchased the same planks that you used previously, completely stain the entire plank in the same stain that you used previously, and re-secure the plank back to the deck.
